It might be easier to make a box out of the stitch plastic, formed together with yarn, that is just big enough for the 3 eggs. If there is a top, you will guarantee they don’t hop over. Some people have also used those lingerie bags w the holes and close them up tight.
I doubt 4 days will have an effect on her. I tried putting eggs under a broody and they kept having issues. This last time I got it to work, gave her fake eggs the whole time, and gave her a few once they had the tiny first pip. She hatched all 4 eggs over the span of 3 days, and no issues at...
Oh, also, are you sure your turner was working? Once I forgot to reset my incubator, and the eggs didn’t turn the first day until I realized the next morning my blue eggs were in front again…and checked the turner and it wasn’t turning.
One thing I found helpful until I got better at identifying air cell size, was weighing eggs before setting, on day 7 and day 14. I noticed that usually the extremes (high or low) didn’t hatch.
So you don’t have a calibrated thermometer or hygrometer in the incubator, correct? If so, can you...
Thank you! She has no idea if they were added after she started sitting. So I’ll start lockdown in 3 days? Should I turn any of them after? This is such a crapshoot…
How far along do you guys think these eggs are? My neighbor took them from her broody, she’s been sitting about 3 weeks. I’ll hatch & return them to the momma if any make it! Trying to time lockdown:

Yeah, this hatch has been rough. Also had a chick born with what looked like intestine out and bleeding all over for 3 hours. Ended up culling. I usually enjoy hatching but this time was tough. 😞
I put them back in the incubator…just in case (even though it’s pretty obvious). I’m not going to open it again until the last Pipped hatches, but I can open it & check after that.
Yes, one was zipped all the way and the othet about 3/4 of the way. No hard membrane, chicks still moist.
I’ve hatched from them multiple times this year, usually about 80% or more after clears. I’m dumbfounded…
Cross posting from the May HAL:
I have 15 chicks out so far!
I am very disappointed with this hatch though. I only had 1 clear out of 43 farm eggs. Had 6 early quitters (day 10 or before), which brings me to 36. I had two eggs zip all the way around, and then stop moving (must’ve been last...
This is the batch I just set. Hopefully all of them 😂
I once set 30 eggs (that was some Jenga juggling), and if I remember I ended up with 24 hatching, I had to hand-turn a couple extra eggs the whole time. It was annoying but worth it.
@Auntiejessi3 Here is a pic of my stack with 29. I did put Silkie eggs in the small triangle spaces, but I usually pull the 7 smallest eggs and put them there until I pull clears & quitters.
I hand turn when I wake up, as soon as I get home from work, and before bed. I usually take out any...
I ended up running both of them under warm water in the sink. All the gunk & stick shell came off. Dried them with a towel and put them back in the incubator for a bit. They are happily chirping away and buzzing around! I have to take them out to clean & set my new Silkie eggs in a bit! The...
