Handling a chick constantly will make your hens so much friendlier. That doesn't usually hold true with cockerels. My sweet little Repecca was my favorite baby. Everyone in the family handled her, even friends visiting loved her. She would let me hold her, pet her, hand feed her, wash poopies...- Cryss

My view is keep the chickens that you can do right by. I bought my first small flock of 4 very young pullets from a reputable breeder. He guarentees gender if that is what you require. I only wanted pullets. 2 of the 4 ended up being cockerels. True to his word he exchanged them for pullets...- Cryss

Cover your coop top with hardware cloth. He won't be able to fly out and hawks, owls, climbing raccoons, etc. won't be able to get in. Keep little children safe.- Cryss
