My girls are still new to it all. They only turned 1 last month. Shazzy was making nests before she was even laying lol and is a brilliant mumma. This is her third clutch. Sammy (girl I've just given eggs too) has only hatched 1 clutch and it was disastrous! She fiercely protected her eggs and...

They seem to sell before they've even hatched here! We've been very lucky in that department. It's only her second hatch so it's a gamble giving her so many but I was about to sell a dozen and she already had 2. Fingers crossed some will be clear lol and if not, we'll cope :-)

I know, it'll be hectic! One of my other girls has been broody as sin for a week now so yesterday I caved and gave her 14 eggs to sit on. She was pulling her sister off her nest quite violently and trying to take eggs from under her so I figured I'm already up the creek, why not throw out the...

Question - I candled said sweet girls eggs yesterday because she was on 18 and to be honest, I was hoping some were clear lol. Only 1 was and 1 other, I noticed, has a loose/detached air sac. I've moved that 1 to the bator as it is still alive and growing. Previously when the girls have brooded...

So spring is firing up here. The incubator is full, my sweet girl is on 16 healthy eggs and my poor girl who's now being left out is champing at the bit to brood! It shall be busy here in November :)

Quick question. My girls have just started mating and laying again after hatching a clutch each. Hkw many days eggs should I dispose of before I can start collecting them for incubation? All three hens ate the chick starter crumble with their babies which they went off about a week ago.

So gang.... I am getting some Pekin Bantam eggs to incubate and I have to admit, I'm pretty darn excited!!! As pets we've only had our Muscovys, and after researching different chook breeds there are about 6 that I want lol. What breeds do you all have a soft spot for??

Really? Lucky you lol. Two of my girls have done it since not long after they got feathers. Maybe 3-4 months old. They're just about to turn 1 year old and they still do it daily. Crazy ladies :)

I completely understand what you're saying. It's so tough. It would be awesome if we could determine the sex of a fertlie egg and thus decide to hatch or discard/eat the egg if we so wished. Ahh the perils of not being god lol. Sounds like you've got a good plan though. Keep on loving the...

Oh no. It doesn't sound promising :-/ Fingers crossed for you though!!! I remember reading posts and seeing the pics of Kristof as he/she was growing. It must be sad for you :-( Could you re-home him if he doesn't lay an egg?

@Alice28, is it at all possible Kristof is a girl and the pinning is just a dominance thing? My girls do this to each other all the time.

Awesome!! Cute little thing :) Have you put something on that navel? Won't let me zoom in on the pic but looks on my screen like it might need something.

Haha great minds think alike. That's exactly the conclusion I came too and just finished doing. The third hen had 9 eggs so I put three in each nest and put hen one and twos in the bator. Most of them are shadowing so perhaps a few days off pipping? Hen threes eggs are still moving around etc so...

While we're on the topic, what is the longest you should leave an internal pip for with no exteranl pip before intervention? Also, three of my girls are on eggs and all started sitting at the same time. Two have started shadowing but the thirds still have tiny air sacs and appear less developed...

Thanks :-) I didn't know that. I assumed they needed to have thier nostrils free so have done that when assisting with malpositions. Now I know for future reference I don't need too :-)

X 2 :-) I have no idea why your duck would only be laying in the pool? None of my hens have done that before.
