My hen, Paddles, started laying on Feb 10th and the last four eggs she's laid have been jelly eggs. I feed them Layena and they also get free choice oyster shell. Any idea how I can help her with this? She's acting fine, normal poops etc. and I can't figure out what's going on with her.
Well, folks it finally happened. I was getting everyone's breakfast this morning and I hear Puddles squeak. I turn around just in time to see Paddles fly out of the duck pen, over the yard, over the neighbor's fence, over their yard, and perch herself right in the center of their covered pool...
Thanks! Good thinking. I've only ever had a pekin drake and he's more likely to do math than fly lol
The avarage lifespan of the domestic Muscovy is 7-12 years, but there are some that have been recorded reaching 20 or older.
Hey guys! How are ya? Whew! I didn't realize how much winter prep I had before I started working on it! Paddles and Puddles are growing like weeds!
Its about time to clip their wings, but they haven't quite figured out the whole flap flap = fly thing, so holding off on that for now.
They'll be 9 weeks tomorrow. Puddles has little stumpy wings whereas Paddles is growing in juvenile feathers. I'm gonna have 40 ducks before I get enough hens to go with my drakes!!
Paddles (black wings) who was starting to look like a drake has changed direction! I'm 99% sure she's a she! Puddles on the other hand has hit a growth spurt and if he isn't a he that's the most drake looking hen I've ever seen! Lol I'm gonna wait a bit to make sure and then get Puds some...
Hmm.. Boarding would be good, because it would be easier for someone to watch after them and make sure there aren't any problems going on. Whatever you do, just make sure the person who's gonna be looking after them loves ducks as much as you do!
Something amazing has happened! I was going to hold off on getting another 'scovie because my dogs are all due for their yearly exams, but it just so happened that I had entered a contest to win some silkie hens in July and the winner was announced yesterday. I won the silkies, but the lady...
Oh no @TherryChicken !
You don't have any peppermint oil do you? That helps with inflammation and muscle soreness. Rub his leg down with it once or twice a day and he'll be good as new!
Thank you so much! I couldn't eat them if my life depended on it, and I don't know how people do. I love my duckies too much.
It'll let me type the message out and all but it won't send. I don't know what's going on with this crazy thing!
