Thank you, leg speed is something I never thought of before. There are a few pullets I already do not want to keep, simply based on their size and scrawniness. I do have a few hens who reproduce far more prolifically than the others that I noticed. I'll keep watching to see who I want to pen up...

This was extremely helpful!!! Thank you for breaking it down and explaining why I need to pen the ones I want to keep. I've already been thinking that I'm going to be eating a lot of chicken dinners in the near future. Which is fine, because I'm low on chicken meat.

He is a pretty boy! I've got one or two youngsters I've been looking at... one of them has obviously been scrapping with his brothers, might be time to put him into a pen. What do y'all keep for hens? What's the criteria there?

All of my stags except one are BBR. Some have spangles on them and some do not. The one who isn-t BBR has a lot of white and tons of spangle. What is the "proper" look for BBR?

So I don't really care about the game part, but I do realize the importance in keeping the integrity of the breed intact. If game birds don't have any game left in them, they are nothing but lawn ornaments. That's why I don't really mind letting them roam and stay predator savvy, and settle most...

I was thinking to myself your birds look awfully athletic compared with my current Games. I kind of halfway recognised that thinner, muscular upright stance from raising oriental fowl. Once upon a time, I properly separated my birds and had enough pens to go around lol

That's kind of what I have been thinking about. Humanity issues aside, is there anything wrong with just letting them do that and keeping the ones who come out on top of the totem pole? I do know what I am in for if I do this. But, they have to go one way or another

The dark legs from what I am seeing are more popular on this color. Should I start to sort out and cull the ones with yellow legs, or does that matter?

I don't really know how many there are but it's too many. 2/3 of this year's crop seem to be stags, unless the hens are all off in the bushes sitting on eggs. Which is a definite possibility. I already gave away between 12-15 of the younger chick stags this year

It makes sense in a way to let them sort out their own problems and keep the best ones

So cull the ones who act buddy buddy with everyone? And separate (and keep) the ones who do the opppsite? Right now there is one "king", all of the others running around are between 2 and 8 months. They have 10 acres to roam and wander over probably half of it. The king seems to so far keep the...

I have questions about colors and what to select for in mine. I don't even know where to start! A little background... I raised oriental fowl for about 5 years, they got wiped out last year in a fire. Someone gave me some American game, which truthfully I know almost nothing about. They sort of...

I like your style of chicken keeping, it sounds a lot like mine from what I can tell. Please don't mind me, I am here stalking y'alls posts trying to learn a thing or two about my own birds. I'll get run out if here if I start asking a bunch of questions, so will observe and learn instead
