How exciting, I'm quite tempted to hatch again but don't know if I've got room for many more babies. My two pullets I hatched last year have just started laying, one today for the first time.
The one on the right is Phylis' first egg the other three and from the same hen, her first three eggs...
Thanks, haven't cracked them yet to see, she's a cream legbar x french copper marans, I bought the eggs as can't have a cockerel but she hatched from darkish eggs. The other eggs are from sussex and French Copper Black Marans my others are still not back in lay. Her sister hasn't started...
That's great, thanks. There is another similar one which looks like a pullet too and at hatch it looked like a bluish extended black copper black chick but it had dodgy legs and I nearly culled it but kept strapping them and now its fine I'm so glad i persevered!
Thanks Peep_Show, probably not but I wanted a second opinion I've only hatched once before and that was just before this one and then there were 4/5 males so I've not got much pullet experience! Male 1 had a large red comb almost from day 1, I think when these have gone more may suddenly develop...
Hi, I am hoping to sort out my olive egger males sooner rather than later as I cannot keep them and as this is only my second hatch can someone more experienced please tell me if they agree that these are cockerels? They are 5 1/2 week copper black marans x cream legbar, thanks :)
Male 1
Male...
I hatched some olive egger eggs and these are some of the chicks they are 5/6 weeks old and their crests are growing now and quite cute, I'm hoping the two front ones may be girls :). The one at the back had a large comb from early on!
Thanks Ron, its quite complex. I can't have roosters so didn't do the cross myself just going on what the ad said (pullets dark, males light) so the legbar rooster over copper black hens means the head spots could be either so I'll keep my fingers crossed as I was really looking forward to an...
Thanks, just looked at the ad, does this work the other way too they were copper black hens and cream legbar roo? If so looks like they're all male as they all looked like they had head spots some more defined than others.
Hi, I got some olive egger hatching eggs in the post. Copper black marans x cream legbar, the ad said pullets dark males lighter does anyone know if this is correct for this cross. 5 hatched, 4 darkish and one ginger stripe!
