I had a hen that laid a "mauve-colored" egg. She was a Welsummer. The egg itself was actually brown, but the blume on her egg that gave it a "plum-colored" appearance. I could never capture the color on camera. She was a hatchery chicken. I got lucky I guess.
I have a "spare" wheaten ameraucana that I keep as back up, but he has no girls, so I put a couple of my F1 OE with him, so he won't be lonely. What color will their offspring lay, do you think? I'm never sure if I'm reading Illia's chart right. Do you think I'll get dull spearmint?
That's awesome! Brownie looks like she has German New Hampshire in her! Some of my GNH lay a pretty dark egg, so I can see how if one is crossed with an Ameraucana, the eggs would come out olive.
I'm close to Augusta. My OE are taking a break. They have molted, but have not started laying again. I have 2 pullets that have been laying for a couple of months, but I have not yet tested for fertility. I'll let you know when they are laying again. I love olive eggs the best! :)
I'm guessing a greenish egg. The one GNH egg I've gotten so far is not cream colored, but more like a very light marans egg. In other words, there's a red brown hue to it.
DS wants to know why I don't keep like breeds together. Well...I always have olive eggers in my head.
I'm thinking of these 2 pens.
Pen 1 : F1 OE hens x blue copper marans roo
Pen 2: BBS marans x blue wheaten ameraucana roo
The BWA roo I have in mind is the lightest of all the blue roos...
