    The Olive-Egger thread!

My Americaunas took 6 months while the Marans took 7 months to lay. I bought the Americaunas chicks while the Marans were hatching and put them in the brooder together. Crooss between the two should be 6 to 7 months to get eggs.

    The Olive-Egger thread!

I'm not a professional breeder, but the way I understand it you'd use the Marans Roo and the F1 to get a F2. Logically thinking a F1 roo and F1 hen would be another F1, but again I'm not a professional breeder and I'm just having fun with chickens. One may come along and say different.

    The Olive-Egger thread!

I've used the sharpie with no problem. I've also used the sharpie and pencil while they were under a chicken. That didn't work at all it rubs off from the hen. Crayon may not rub off. I may try crayon next time I let chickens hatch.

Do the eggs get heavier or lighter as they develop? I have a hard time with candling with really dark eggs.

    The Olive-Egger thread!

I haven't dug through this entire thread. I have 7 hens that are easter eggers sold as Americaunas from Lumber 2 They lay green eggs. I have a Blue Splash Maran rooster. Will their offspring be olive eggers? And what would I call them for a breed?
