I'm already loving it. I already had the 7 egg Brinsea but it just wasn't big enough. The 14 egg new one has some nice features. Can add water without opening it up and there's a little hole you can open/close to release humidity or heat if needed.
I've hatched marans, easter eggers and olive eggers (marans x isbar) crosses and all of them have taken between 24 and 25 weeks. I've always done fall chicks though. Seems like the spring chicks take longer to lay but since you did so early in the year the might lay around that time frame too.
Yup I've always gotten my chicks in late summer/early Fall and they've always started laying between 24-25 weeks. I think I'll stick with that plan. I've heard too many stories of spring chicks taking forever to start laying.
My blue olive egger (Isbar X Marans) laid her first egg. All 3 are now laying and seem to be very productive. One has laid an egg every day for 6 days straight.
Here's a better photo of the first olive eggs from my marans x isbar crosses. As mentioned before one of them is laying light brown ugh. But the other is a nice olive/khaki color. The photo posted before was a quick phone pic but I got out my real camera, a light tent and my grey card for this...
Good news! Another one of my Isbar x Marans Olive Eggers started laying yesterday and got another one today. Happy to say these ones are not light brown like her sisters. They are huge dark olive. The first one weighed in at 58g and the one today at 61g. I think they may be from the same pullet...
I'm pretty sure this one came from my olive egger pullet. It was only 45 grams. Well I have 2 more so hopefully at least one will actually lay an olive egg.
Here's the egg I got the other day that I think may be from my Isbar x marans pullet. They are due to start laying any day now. None of my other laying hens lay this shape of egg. It's a lot shorter and fatter. It seems a little large for a first egg though so I'm not sure. It's 61g. Could this...
Yeah Greenfire is where the Isbars from my olive eggers came from too. Not sure which generation. I know they had a couple different imports. I'll ask.
Where'd you get your Isbar? I have some Marans x Isbar olive eggers due to start laying any day now. I got a weird shaped brown egg the other day but thought it couldn't possibly have come from the olive eggers. Now I'm thinking maybe it could have... I hope not.
Interesting. Look like he has a black beard. :) Isbar's are actually green layers and are the only green layer with a straight comb. I got the fertilized eggs from a friend and hatched them under a broody hen. I have some BCM's I might try crossing them with to see if I can get an F2 olive...
My kids are 5 weeks old and their feathers are coming in nicely. I think they will be beauties. It's looking like 2 of the 5 might be boys. This is Shylo & Ollie. I hope their eggs will be as pretty as they are. I may keep one of the boys but it will be difficult giving one up.
My Isbar x Black Copper Marans chicks are only 16 days old and one of them is already showing signs of wattles. I knew boys got wattles earlier than girls but at 16 days? I had no idea they'd start showing that early. So far only one of the five is showing wattles. It's a bummer because it was...
