I have an EE roo (avatar) and several EE and non.EE and EE cross hens. I get a variety of egg colors, but my only olive-ish eggs are really pale, so I recently ordered 2 marans and 2 barnvelder pullets for next hears crosses for olive eggs. Anyone else use barnbelders?
Funny book .. reminds me that when I tell people that I get a green egg, they almost always ask "Is the yolk green?"
Oh, and DS20's girlfriend told him the other day that she would NOT be eating any eggs from our place.. she doesn't want eggs that come out of a chicken's butt ...

Oh good .. so when DH thinks that because I recognize voice and egg shape that I'm crazy ... I can tell him that me AND wynette are BOTH crazy ..
And Kelly too.
Well, I personally think DH needs to tune-in ... he's missing alot! lol

Great to know .. may sound weird, but she lays the same SHAPE egg most of the time, and I thought it looked like hers .. She's just a neato girl!
Awesome eggs!
Soooo .. I've got 4 hens .. 3 started laying last month .. two blue eggs and one olive egg. 2 to 3 eggs a day.
This week I'm getting a solid olive egg one day, and then a speckled olive egg the next..
Can a hen lay eggs like that? Or did my little Hershey start laying ??
I guess if I...
My roo is a Salmon Faverolles .. a tinted egg breed. It will be interesting to see what the offspring of his mating with my blue-eggers and my olive-eggers lay. I'm not doing special breeding, it just turned out that he is my roo .. lol.
Someone will have to go broody, though, cause I don't...

It looks to me like that's a pea comb which has been influenced by the single comb gene as well. In which case, it's not so much a "different" comb per se, it's just a little bit taller and more bubble-gummy.
Exactly .. It's just definitely different than the "other" girls ...

That is a beautiful egg!
Thank you! It's actually a shade darker than the others she has layed (she's been laying for about two weeks). She's the dominant hen, and a real take charge kinda girl .. I love her.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh Haaaaaaaaa!! Caught her .. so now I KNOW who my little olive egger is .. coincidently, she has a different comb than my blue egg layers ..

Just a correction here .. If you breed him to your Wellie's and BCM .. any resulting CHICKS will lay olive eggs .. The Wellies and BCM will still lay brown eggs regardless of what you breed them to ...
Thank you .. I knew there was a possibility of an OE or two when I hatched these chicks .. I was THRILLED with the egg .. now I have to slueth and find out who is laying it .. AND figure out how to take better pictures .. color is soooo tricky.
I'm officially in this club now .. (if I could only tell WHICH hen the egg came from .. lol)
I will be picking up another OliveEgger this weekend .. yay!
