Thank you! I definitely think she’ll do great here, and I can’t wait for those big eggs. I’ve only ever raised bantam Cochins before, so I’m sure I’ll be shocked at her egg size in person.
Here’s the chicks checking out one of my flower pots, they love to jump up and grab the spent buds...
My chubby little Australorp is so friendly! She loves to get pets and to cuddle into my hands. I’m in love with the breed already.
I do have one grown hen (who I believe is a leghorn) that I rehomed just yesterday. She is a rescue that wasn’t fitting in with her adult flockmates due to a head...
Here’s another picture of the chicks in the raised beds yesterday evening. I worked pruning neglected tomatoes for about 4 hours and they had a great time pecking and scratching around.
I also introduced our Pug dog “Smudge” to the chicks and she had no idea what to think. She’s great with...
The older girls had their first dust bath today! It’s amazing how ingrained their desires and natural instincts are, even without a mama they know exactly what to do.
Lovely chickens btw! Your second photo seems to capture their personalities perfectly. I can’t wait to have my own Silkie. I’d love her to be my broody
You don’t have to tell me that :gig
No names yet, but I’m thinking of naming my whole flock after trees! Boisdarc, Catawba, Mimosa, Plumeria, etc.
The golden laced polish is the dark chick with a red head! It’s hard to tell in the picture but she has a big fluffy beard/muff. Super cute :)
Uh oh :jumpy it seems as if I have stumbled upon a box with what looks like a favorelles, australorp, golden laced polish, and a buff frizzle bantam! Whatever shall I do except add them to my small flock of chicks?
You could go by TSC to “just visit your daughter” and then maybe happen across some chicks that are too perfect to leave ;) I’m tempted to go back to my Atwood’s just to see if they have anything new in! Something about chicks is just so addictive.
Spent this evening watering and pruning the raised beds while the chicks ate insects and learned how to dust bathe! It’s super hot here in central Oklahoma, and they were drinking water droplets off of tomato and hot pepper leaves.
I carry them to and from the garden in a Home Depot bucket!
I...
Sweet little Chip decided she loved the blanket I was sitting on. She attempted to dust bathe on it and then decided to stretch out and take a nice nap.
I try and sit on a blanket while I’m outside because I get ate up by mosquitos and chiggers so bad :hitDoes anyone have any preventatives that...
I definitely will!
Thank you lots. And yes it’s a fountain with a little gold fish pond. In need of a cleaning and some new plants which will hopefully be done before August ends. So much to do so little time
Just spent a small part of the afternoon cleaning an old dog igloo to use as a brooder once the chicks start realizing they have wings! They played in the garden right next to me and took nice little naps while I was working.
I have no idea what colors they’ll end up being, I just tried to pick a unique selection! Do you know what the adult version of Silver might look like?
I just couldn’t help myself when I went to pick up some things from my local Atwood’s. :idunno
Let me introduce you to my 6 new chicks, 3 “Americanas” and 3 bantams, all with temporary names:
lil Mama, the sweetest and most friendly of all the chicks
Chip, a pretty reddish chick who loves to...
