That is completely not true for some people... Some people keep chickens for eggs and meat. They consider them livestock. Other people keep chickens as pets and for enjoyment.

Who is telling you that you need to sell your flock? Are you living with this family or do you own your own home? I feel like if you are living with them, you need to keep the peace. You need to find neutral ground where everyone can be happy.
