    Thin shells - hereditary?

I don’t think it had an effect on Henny, but maybe on Friendly. I will continue with the ACV, and try Caltrate in addition.

    Thin shells - hereditary?

10 days of ACV in their water, and Henrietta still lays eggs with a shell so thin, they sometimes break. If I catch her laying, and take it away, I can save it. Friendly on the other hand (or should I say claw?), has started laying again, after months of not laying. Her eggs mostly just fall...

    Thin shells - hereditary?

Thanks for the advice. Right now I am trying apple cider vinegar in their water for a week. If it doesn’t make a difference, I’ll try the Caltrate. I should be able to get it here.

    Thin shells - hereditary?

I used to serve their feed wetted only, for the first year. They had the thin shelled egg- problem then too. I ran out of time to do that, since I am milking goats now. Thin shells - hereditary?

I will look up Caltrare and see if I can get that here (we ecer have all the choices in Canada). It is highly likely that my girls are all sisters or half sisters AND badly bred. I was the beginner buying from a beginner breeder. About the soil, I should find out from neighbours if they have...

I understand in the summer AC CAN inhibit calcium absorption, so add it in the cooler months.

    Thin shells - hereditary?

We got our chicks in the spring of 2018. We had planned to get 4 pullets of certain heritage breeds... Then we visited a young boy who needed to get rid of his batch of chicks, due to weasel break-in. We found ourselves with a flock of 9 teenage chicks, out of which 4 turned out to be hens. The...

I will try the ACV in the water. I do it for the goats anyway.

    Thin shells - hereditary?

My chickens diet is organic layer and a bit of scratch, bits of fruit and any bugs and scraps they find. They have access to oystershells and crushed eggshells. They get a snack plate with any leftover bread or other scraps at night, that I add a little ground up oystershell to. I do believe...
