    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

We had a warm afternoon on Sunday so we let the chicks have a little while outdoors. Senior Rooster Mo introduced himself and seemed to approve. He does like baby chicks.

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

Our two little chicks are great but they are also noisy! I saw the thread in the baby chicks forum about 2 chicks and I think I may have the same thing going on. I think the black and white chick thinks I'm her mother. Maybe because she hatched 15 hours before her sibling and I was the main one...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

Thanks so much for the replies. Through the morning I slooooowwly cut a tiny then larger pip, then waited. Later I enlarged the pip in the air cell, everything below the air cell looked VERY wet. Waited then did a tiny pip through the membrane I could see the beak but no movement lots of liquid...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

Our two chicks are doing wonderfully. I now wonder about this egg, no pip, no tapping or chirping, day 23. Both of the others hatched on Day 21, one closer to the end of day 20 and the other about 15 hours later. Do you think it has any chance? I've read and re-read the assist article. I feel...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

Our two little chicks this morning. Chick 1 is SO happy now that Chick 2 is ready to be a friend. Chick 1 is Tolbunt Polish x Easter Egger or Spitzhauben possibility of frizzled feathers- though I don't think so looking at her so far. Chick 2 is Easter Egger x Easter Egger or Spitzhauben I think...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

I took chick 1 out for a little hold and introduced her to the brooder heat plate and water. This allowed chick 2 some rest. For now both are resting in the incubator since chick 1 didn't want to be in the brooder alone! I'll take her out again if she starts bothering chick 2 again. I took the...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

Chick 2 has hatched. Chick 1 is bothering chick 2 it trying to eat it's trail of yolk and gunk and climbing on chick 2. Does anyone think I should take chick 1 out now so chick 2 can dry in peace, or is this how it always is, not a big deal?

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

We're at the point now of whisper/shouting don't wake the baby when anyone goes near the incubator...on the rare occasion the lone chick is sleeping. She is a talker when awake, not distressed just very chirpy! She will need a feisty name. I should have known, when I candled eggs before lockdown...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

My lonely only so far chick is doing the same, pushing at and pecking other eggs. She's a feisty one and she's not happy to have no friends. When a person or even a cat goes to the incubator to look in she (or he I guess) runs over to be near them and pecks at the plastic dome. The only other...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

One chick has hatched here! There's a pip on another egg, I hope it doesn't take too long because chick 1 desperately wants some company! She runs over the the edge of the incubator to visit when anyone, human or cat goes near.

Thanks for reassurances. We've only hatched with broody hens before, I didn't need to worry about these things. So excited to see the hatching this time. :jumpy :love

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

All locked down here. I got the humidity up, turner removed and shelf paper set down. Now the wait... Do you think I should I place the eggs closer together even though it would mean opening the incubator?

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

Okay, that's good. Since I haven't had this in since the start I would also like to know is it safe to insert this tomorrow when I take the turner piece out of the incubator. I think the eggs would be out for a minute or two. I know the hen gets off the eggs etc...I'm just a nervous first time...

    11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

I read the messages about adding shelf paper to the incubator to prevent leg problems. Could someone let me know if this type (in pictures) would be okay? It has rather large holes, it feels rubbery to the touch. Bought it for the kitchen awhile back and it hadn't yet made it out of the package😁.

Here is my best day 14 candling picture from Saturday. A white egg really lets you see a lot! I can't tell much at all from blue or green eggs. This was the only white that developed.
