Well it seems that for my backyard flock, feeding fermented commercial feed and foraging is a good plan. My birds do not free-range very much, so I provide a variety of vegetables and occasional meat scraps in the run. The flock is very healthy.

Does fermenting the feed increase the absorption of nutrients, such as protein? My commercial layer feed is 16% protein.
