It’s day 9 on the one under the broody, and it still looks great. My mom found her on the wrong nest again the other day and the eggs were cold, so she was worried, but the heartbeat looks strong today.
Still looking great! Mama went back to the wrong nest yesterday and was off it for about an hour in freezing temps, so I was a little worried, but it is still going strong. I’ll check again on Friday. It’s an EE x Japanese bantam so it’ll be an interesting little chick.
Hopefully it does ok by itself with the broody! :fl The father should be a bantam so it’ll be a little one. The mom’s last hatch was a single with the same dad, just not a mid winter baby.
Just candled, only one appears to be developing. I’m not super excited about having a singleton chick in the winter but it’s too late to add eggs and I’m not starting over.
Mama is still sitting. I really want to check the eggs but I’m holding off, I know I wouldn’t see anything yet. I’m planning to check Monday and if there isn’t any development I’ll go get some hatching eggs next week.
Eggs have been given to the broody. I didn’t get a second australorp egg today but if she lays one early tomorrow I may sneak it in there. (They’re bigger than they look, it’s a duck egg carton)
The rooster should be a Japanese bantam (I have some cockerels that are just coming of age but I don’t think they’ve mated the hens yet) and the eggs are from an australorp, a barred rock, and an Easter egger. We’ve done japaneseXaustralorp before but I’m excited to see how the other mixes come out.
