I used to ferment, but I also kept regular pellets available all the time as well. 4 cups of fermented feed per day for 19 might not be enough, at 5 weeks they’re still growing like crazy, and need tons of food.

Looks scarlet to me, but lighting can make the reds look lighter or darker.

If you have movement, it was not 115. The new thermometer is probably wrong. You should calibrate 2 thermometers at least, for the next hatch, that way you’ll really know what the temp is. Good luck with this hatch, I hope they’ll all come out well!

I have 12-15 in about 24 sq ft and it seems perfect. For 36 sq ft, I’d say 18-20, so like 15-16 hens and 3 Roos. My snowies are just maturing, currently I have 17 in about 20 sq ft, and that is too many imo, now that they’re crowing, some boys are leaving this weekend.

I got one in my snowie hatch. It’s got a mostly white body with dark spots here and there, and a red head that’ll probably turn dark as it ages. It’s very striking to see in the group.

Apparently it makes them forget who is who, and by the time it wears off they’ve forgotten how things used to be. Someone had posted a thread about combining coveys with vinegar, and I tried it and it was great. Every once in a while you get someone bent on being a jerk, and I just cull the...

I normally mist everyone with half vinegar half water. Then I mist the whole pen, especially high traffic areas and hides. I put the new ones in and watch for aggression. Aggressors get a squirt of vinegar water, and I find they need very few corrections. I watch for a half hour or so, then I go...

I’ve had to keep ones isolated because of weak hatching etc, and they cry a lot. In my experience this doesn’t harm them physically, but it’s probably hard on them emotionally. I have not known Quail to imprint, but as it realizes you are it’s only company, it will probably start to like you...

I gave my lone sick chick some craft Pom Poms so he felt like he was with buddies, and a mirror. The mirror was a huge hit.

Hahahaha, someone in a chicken thread asked about why i didn’t have an avatar, and I was posting those pics at the time, so I used one lol. My son wants a hedgehog named sonic, but I told them no individual pets until they’re 9, and they have to keep good grades, so not for 2 more years!

That happens sometimes, I had one I couldn’t see in the whole time I incubated, it was normal inside, but didn’t develop.

This is how bad they are at it. The male is standing guard, the female is sitting on the eggs. One isn’t even under her hahahaha

You should disturb them as little as you can. I candle on day 8 or so, and then at lockdown. The rest of the time I leave them alone.

They’re already in the fridge lol. I use the incubators to hatch. But you guys love broodies so I thought I would show the little house hubby tending the nest.

2 of the males and a bunch of the females are broody, but I doubt they could hatch them, they’re dumb, and fickle. So I take them, and they gather more up, and the cycle repeats lol.

What I do with candling and the nr360, my husband lifts and replaces the lid as I take them in and out, and I operate the torch lol. He watches the temp and we keep it over 97, if it drops because we weren’t fast enough, we note the spot we stopped and continue the next night. Now we have it...
