    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

Maybe, but our Holsteins are as skinny as a... really skinny thing. I haven't used a pad on them before, but if you were going to train them to it and do it regularly you might want to? It depends if you want to go really western style!

That particular one was a Holstein, he was really bony, but ok temper. We mostly have Galloways or belted Galloways.

That is great! Sounds like you just have to get him comfortable with you on his back and wait till he is older to support more weight than just himself. Ours wouldn't eat grass you gave him. (And he was the nicest of them all, I sure have some stories!) :gig

Yes, you should work with them a lot before riding, try and get them to come and follow you. Then have it get used to you on its back, you can put a pad on him if he has a really boney back. I worked on this for years with my friend, and we still couldn't get him to walk while sitting on his back.

Agreed! I once tried standing on a platform for watering the cows, about 3 feet high, and jumping on our Holstein cows back. It was a half-hearted attempt, (DARE) the cow threw me off within a second! 🙃 🐄

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

One day, about 5 years ago, when I was doing a craft at the table near our back door, It was summer and the door was partway open, I looked over and saw our Boar (550 pounds about) on our porch trying to come inside- (he was raging mad!) His pen is far away from the house and does not...

Wow! If these are really true stories then you sure had an interesting life growing up on a farm. I am starting to get nervous of what my future has to bring on a farm- quick I gotta move! :gig :lau  :bow:oops:

@casportpony What is your favorite hobby (besides being on BYC, or being with poultry.) 🙃

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

As buffalo are you referring to the pig? I never actually got hit by the pig- I hopped the fence, but being hit by a cow sure hurts! :gig :lau

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

Ok, I have been chased by a cow and cornered by a 500-pound pig... until I hopped the fence!

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

Agreed that pigs are clean animals when plenty of mud and dirt aren't provided for them, however, ours have plenty of free access to that. They do make their beds and are clean animals when defecating. So I guess they could go both ways.

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

Ok- I have to admit that pig is pretty cute, our pigs are outside and aren't piglets anymore so I don't spend much time with them. Do you keep your inside?
  16. shineandrise

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

How could you? Don't you just want to play with them instead? :barnie:rant:th:eek::gig:lau

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

Ok- do you have cows or pigs??? Cuz I do and cows have too many flies and pigs are too dirty. Unless you are one of those people that keep your pig in your house, give them baths regularly and take them on walks! 🙃

    Let's Ask Kathy 😄

At first, I read this and thought you said HOGS! :gig Chickens, dogs, cats, bunnies, horses, should never be scalded in my opinion!
