Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

S’more has already started laying!! I wasn’t expecting eggs so soon, and her first one I thought was our other EE, but yesterday there were two colored eggs in the nesting box, and it was obvious which one was which. I’m so very happy her body has healed. Way to go S’more!!

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

Five days after “surgery” and the prolapse tissue has fallen off and S’more seems to be feeling herself again!! Kept it clean, kept her in a dark place where her body could focus on healing, and it did. Never thought I’d be so happy to see a chicken bum 😂

She has been a dream of a patient. So, well, patient! She hadn’t flapped around or struggled at all. 🧡💛🧡

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

Actually, this is after I trimmed and cleaned. I forgot I taken a picture here. It is really ugly, but it doesn’t seem to cause her pain, she is passing feces, and it doesn’t smell. So I’m going to take all of that, along with her appetite and alertness, as good signs and hope for the best.

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

Thank you so much. Good news: she’s eating and FINALLY drinking. She was very hungry after her soak. I cleaned up her bum, trimmed feathers, gave her a blow dry and offered her food and she was very hungry. She would have eaten more, but I want to limit her food until she can pass normal poo...

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

I did want to give her antibiotics, but my local Tractor Supply didn’t have any poultry penicillin and I had read you shouldn’t use off-label bovine or sheep antibiotics. I can call my feed store today to see what they have. Letting it dry out was based off a YouTube video I found the night I...

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

Yes, I’ve been syringing fluids in her, but I’m sure it’s not enough. I tried to gently put it back the night I got the egg out, but she immediately pushed it out. Now too much of the tissue is dead, so I’m hoping it will dry up and fall of, like an umbilical cord. I did offer her egg but she...

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

She’s not lethargic, so that’s a plus! She is definitely starting to feel better, and will explore when I let her out of the crate, she just won’t eat or drink. She is a very flighty hen and has always been super skittish around us, so this is really rocking her world. I knew she was feeling...

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

Thanks for the reply!! She just pooped today for the first time actual poo. Previously it has just been white and brown liquids that she’s been able to push out. I have been spraying vetricyn a few times a day and did continue the epsom soak, and that’s pretty much it now. I gave her some...

Egg bound and prolapse, cut out egg, need help finishing

This would have been her very first egg. Completely egg bound and prolapsed. Couldn’t find any hole from which to remove egg (soft shell) so I cut it out. Now I can’t tell what remaining parts are egg stuffs and what parts are her oviduct. Got her cleaned up as much as possible and tried to...
