Yeah, that "broody" clause makes a HUGE difference.
Cookie (my bantam orp) is the same. When she was younger egg production was practically daily..... but one year she went broody 5 times! (Mostly because she was stubborn and when I broke her, she just went broody a month later. )

I thought silkies looked weird (still do), but after having a couple, I must admit they are awesome. (Technically they are my DD's birds.) They are both endearing and annoying, because they are constantly underfoot and whine to be picked up/ cuddled.
