Summer update. Used my incubator once again, same amount of eggs. Same result. 49 hatched, lost one (It didn't even develop, so I'm assuming it wasn't fertile). :)
I have to disagree. If my hatches are coming out this well, I believe I should share. If people are using my exact set-up, with the same mix of birds, it's not unreasonable to believe they'll end up with a high rate as well. Only time will tell. I'll be hatching 50 more in a month. I'll come...
Not once, I have no way to do so. But like I said, the air in here is really dry. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Seemed to be fine without me monitoring it at all.
As for breed Im using, It's a crossbreed- Bard rock roo, and Rhode Island Red hens. They seem to be extremely sturdy, as I...
Keep in mind, all manual turning, twice per day. you have to open the box which simulates the chicken leaving the nest and the eggs cooling. Other than my mishap with spilling water on my first attempt (which is why I stopped adding water), all my dry hatches are on day 21 exactly. I use small...
All measurements are in inches..
36 wide, 12 deep, 18 long.
there is a divider 6 inches from the back, with holes cut which I split a desk fan, and mounted the blades facing back and the face on the other side, as you can see in the picture I'll post. I set it to low, and it runs all the time...
My wife has the camera, when she gets back, I'll take a picture. Fair warning, it's nothing to look at. I built it out of some old foamboard insulation that I had lying around.. lol
No hygrometer. Only temperature control. And I agree 100% keeping it a little more simple and manual seems to be working best! As for humidity levels in PA during the winter months, they are typically 30-40%, however, the air inside our house is always somewhat lower than that because of our...
I'm going to go with the age old addage, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. we're adapted to it, and my hatches are doing good... lol.. Thanks for the suggestion though.
Yeah, I keep my rooster in with a specific set of hens, that way I know their eggs are always fertile. I don't know about the humidity though.. As I said, the air in here is really dry. Doesn't make sense.. but it's working! lol
I couldn't tell you.. lol... It's the same as what's in the house.. I didnt add a humidity controller on the incubater I built. I've done 3 rounds of hatching. 50 eggs total.. I only lost 1 egg out of all of them!
Im starting to think the whole humidity thing is malarky... I'm at 98% hatch rate with fertile eggs, thermostat set to bounce between (99 f)-(101 f) .. Manual turn twice per day, with open hatch during turning, to simulate hen leaving nest for short cooling. ((((Forced air, NO added humidity.)))...
