I found a great home for an "extra" drake. I hemmed and hawed worried he would be ok and safe... turned out he got to have TWO females of his breed all to himself at his new home, with NO other drakes!

Being trampled by little hen feet, so eager to get out to the garden that they run right over my feet, is one of my favorite life-moments. It means they trust you, and the garden you have provided is their little bit of heaven.
She is so beautiful that she likely gets chased by paparazzi... That is why she is camera shy... It is hard being so beautiful, 'ordinary' people don't understand the burden (sigh)
what a wonderful 'happily ever after' story, that feels good. A nice anti-dote to the scary messages that get posted here about illness and injury.

I love that! You made this wonderful dust bath for them, and the go rip up the sod and make a pit of their own. I guess the shady side of the cabin was a nice spot from their perspective. Mine like to dust bath in the warmest part of the run. Mine is in a big tote, that I move to the sunny spot...
I am so jealous that you have so much green. It is still mud and rock season here, the snow just receded and nothing has started growing yet. The 'ice-age' comes every year for us.

i played the little video at 10pm and my dog who was sleeping nearby JUMPED at the calling hen. (giggle) so that made it even funnier.
I made the mistake of building a run that cannot be moved around. I'll need to make some fencing in new areas this summer. But honestly, they did such a 'scorched-earth' deal on the ground that was such nice tall grasses when they came, that I don't think anything will ever grow there again. It...
it is so clean (no poo all over the place ;) ) and the grass in the run is.. well... there. Keep the pictures, it won't look like that long! Chickens are worst to grass than locusts.
