Heh, your broody is marveling that it took so little time sitting on those eggs.
I just did a quick search on partridge colored chicks of various breeds, and there does seem to be quite a variety of down color. When pics said "chocolate partridge" the chick was pretty definitely red. But just...
Awww. look at those cuties! So glad you got a decent hatch from the shipped partridge eggs this time. And what fun with the broody!
I look forward to your updates on the progress of these chicks. You are so good about chronicling your experiences.
I don't have any advice on your third chick's pipping, since I haven't hatched before. But I've read that they can be pipped like that for 12 hours or so and be fine as long as the humidity is high, as I'm sure you know. So maybe you can get some sleep?
Its a "good night" from me, anyway. I...
Woo hoo! Go, chickies, go!
I am no expert, but I think you can get different shades of partridge. I was reading about the bantam partridge Wyandottes at Greenfire Farms, and they had a mix: some that were chocolate partridge and some that (I think) were just regular partridge and lighter, so...
I followed along for that hatch too, and that part was awful, even though you ended up with a beautiful flock. Like you said, hatching shipped eggs is a gamble.
I wish Papa's had bantam Orps. I want to have a flock again that actually lays eggs, now that my elderly girls are gone. I think...
Ha ha. I can imagine how you feel. So exciting!
West Coaster here, so I'll be checking in for another couple hours before bedtime, keeping you company in spirit. This already looks better for the partridge Orps than the last go around.
I've been waiting for this thread! I greatly enjoyed your last hatching thread and your follow-ups on the chicks. It has inspired me to (maybe) do a small hatch myself. I lost my three 10 year old bantam cochin girls before the pandemic due to old age. I got them as started pullets from a...
