Well, yes and no. Some hatcheries sell better quality birds than others. But even the good ones don't always sell the best birds. If you really want a chicken with the lavender coloration, I would go to a reputable breeder, who only breeds chickens without the shredding gene.

You have to be careful with Lavenders because they often carry a gene which make the feathers look scraggly.
