    build the coop you want and don’t listen to people’s opinions about the cost. if you’re passionate about this...go big. chickens are awesome...and don’t listen to the nay sayers...most of them have less than a couple dozen chickens and no roosters. i say go big and have fun with it.

    “expensive” most the time relates to importance more than budget. the average person spends $2-3k per year on cell phones, data, tv, subscriptions, clothes, new cars, etc...people spend money on what they value...just like how they spend time.

    my roof is 14°...that’s just what i read online...we can get snow so it needed a certain pitch for weight i assume... i also use the roof to collect rain water to supply the chickens water basin

    we burned down a 100 year old coop that was 35x100’. i went way smaller since i’m not a chicken farmer

    i built a coop last year myself. it’s 12x24’ and half is storage for garden and 12’ for chickens. it was around $5k with metal roof and 3/4” plywood floor with 2x12’s every 12” for floor joists along with hardy plank. TODAY...double that price to $10k to build yourself. this is the only...
