My rain dances are to no avail. Hear the thunder and see the rain just to the north of us by a few miles - every time. Stifling hot here, not even a breeze. Bone crispy dry. We live in a sucking vortex sink drain. The rain separates around us to the north and south.
Where NOT to live. 😭
This definitely will not work in our yard - others suffocating us on all sides, much too close. If they think the chickens are annoying - imagine what the bees would do. This project / hobby will have to wait a bit longer for me as well. sighing 😞
Good deal on your rain. That should really kick things into high gear. Send some of that south please. We are so dry that as one merely walks through the yard, we are kicking up sand. I'd rather have clay. We had all clay earth up north, difficult to grow in for sure, but I had much better...
We have a wildflower garden that the honey bees used to visit, but I haven't seen a bee in two years. Our garden didn't make it through the winter. Even as perennials they don't look healthy, too much frost and freeze burn so I'll have to start all over.
The start up costs was the initial deterrent that prevented my bee keeping hobby from kicking off - house needed repairs. It's all about keeping my priorities in check. Someday, I WILL have bees. I decided chickens were more important than bees so I had to pick my "poison". 🤣
Go for it!! Selling honey would be another source of income.
I've always wanted to raise honey bees but we simply don't have the space to accommodate it and there is not enough flora in the area to support them. The queens are very expensive. It's been a couple of years since my research to...
Thank you for the suggestions. I will definitely be following your progress.
I read where the long term forecast for FL is warmer and drier this year than average, whatever that is anymore. Seems like the summers are getting hotter and hotter (and drier) with every passing year. Perhaps it's...
Wow! I don't know how I overlooked this thread all this time, but I'm grateful I found it now. I just read the entire thing. Fascinating stuff @U_Stormcrow! I've learned so much.
We live in zone 9 and have a crappy yard with some scrub trees and the open areas the dog does a fine job of...
