Thanks Heather! You are so good about reaching out and you're so encouraging. I just love hearing about your flock. I hope summer has been good to you and yours!
Kale, I hope your surgery goes super smooth and recovery is quick. You'll be back out there with them in no time, and in much less pain I'm sure!!! I'm glad you have someone you trust that is on duck duty :)
I hate to be negative, but I'm not feeling very upbeat right now. I had to put down one of my welsh last week as she came down with something and was getting worse to the point where she was clearly suffering. My pekin Puddles can barely walk, only goes short distances, and is all fluffed up, so...
Heather, you're so sweet about checking in! No, not really. I contacted a couple of vets yesterday about euthanizing her, just so I know. It's a tough decision, and I'm not sure I'm there yet, but just want to know what I will do. Thanks for asking. How's your dad's recovery going?
Thanks @KaleIAm , that's helpful to know about those signs to look for. I do have some baby aspirin that I gave her at one time when she had bumblefoot. Two things I worry about - masking the pain so she walks more and makes it worse, and also, how long could I potentially give it to her without...
I will probably keep up what we're doing for a little while longer, as it seems she still has a will to live and seems to enjoy eating and swimming and being with the other ducks. I will never get over the irony that she hurt her leg the day her foot completely healed.
@HeatherKellyB No, there's no swelling, heat, or anything out of the ordinary. If I had felt something weird I probably would have opted for the vet at the beginning, but there was nothing, so I thought maybe it was just a strain and would get better in time. It's happened to her once before...
@HeatherKellyB @Quatie Speaking of Pekins with limps, after suffering through like a 9 month bout of bumblefoot and trying to get the scab to go away, the day it disappeared completely, my pekin Penny hurt her leg and stopped walking. Well, she uses her wings to gain balance and limps around a...
That sounds like really good progress - there are always ups and downs. What an amazing life change for your dad to not have that commitment. I hope he has many amazing times down the road with your daughter - so special!
