We always just use romas. We got a nice thick sauce last year too. It takes all day to simmer we start with about 70 quarts and when it is done cooking down we canned adout 35 quarts of sauce.
We are in Michigan so nothing can go out till end of April to mid May. Heavy frost and all. I did not start anything from seed this year. I usually do but got busy with the planning for 1st chicks, so it will be a trip to the local greenhouse for us this year.
