My Easter boys are up for sale: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/5-cockerels-in-moore-county-nc.1544287/
I'll probably sell a couple of the girls too.
I dealt with the non-hatchers.
One had clearly been dead for quite a while -- still very small. My notes for the 14 day candling say "lots of veins" with no movement noted.
The other two came very close to hatching. One seemed quite normal but had simply died without absorbing it's yolk. The...
It makes me wonder why she didn't warn you a possible known issue before you bought the eggs.
Warning you and discounting the price would seem to me to be the ethical thing to do.
In my case, I will be able to identify *some* of the males because I have several cuckoo females and no barred or cuckoo males. Thus while not all my males will be barred/cuckoo, all chicks hatched with the headspot that indicates the barred gene will be male.
There are other sexlinks possible...
Candled the remaining 3 eggs last week. Definitely dead.
I didn't have time the night before my trip to do an eggtospy on the 1 I pulled at 14 days but if I'm feeling well enough this afternoon I'll check these.

It's the fact that it's so unexpected for my location at this time of year.
If it were normal for my area I'd already be set up for dual heating instead of jury-rigging it in the rain. (DH makes it clear that I am only borrowing his best, extra-heavy-duty extension cord and can't keep it as...
This is insane. Instead of having a nice, simple, mild-climate setup, I'm having to reboot the arrangements from this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/expecting-19f-saturday-night-so-im-nervous-advice-wanted.1514590/
That is, set up both the Big Red Bulb and the brooder plate...
I'm still feeling horrible and it's pouring rain, but I have to get the babies out of the incubator and into the brooder. I'm not sure how many I have.
I am sick and not capable of counting accurately, but at least 8 have hatched and all the ones I can see without too much effort are pipped.
Do stored eggs take longer to hatch? Most of my own eggs, which were gathered within 3-4 days of setting, have been hatching but only one of the Easter...
