I've had two different lines of chickens, one ten years ago and one I currently have, that each got their duplex allele from a single V-combed hen in the beginning but subsequently produced homozygous duplex birds with both buttercup and v shape comb types - among other variations.
Your single comb hen might be hiding one copy of the duplex gene. @nicalandia gave a great textbook explanation. I'll just add that I'm skeptical of D^v and D^c being two different alleles of the same gene. They might be the same allele with the phenotypical differences being the result of...
