Everything went fine after this incident for a while. Until she contracted egg block 3 days ago. She fought hard and we did everything we could but she finally gave up today. She died not 20 minutes ago...
HELP. Today I couldn't find my recovering hen and I found her making a nest behind my garbage bin. She hasn't been eating or drinking since yesterday evening and she has been super lethargic. It is a wild turn compared to how she has been doing the past couple of weeks. She is in her kennel...
She is doing really good today. She is wandering around out in my little pasture out back. She is lively enough that she attacked 2 of my turkeys and my smaller dog.
Thank you. We are in Columbia county. Is that far from the vet you mentioned? Do they charge a lot? I know my parents aren't going to pay a ridiculous amount of money for a chicken no matter how much she means to us.
There isn't anything to block the vent. There is no egg, either soft or hard-shelled, and she is still pooping. I did put a slit in front of the vent so she can still poop. What does worry me is that there is something crusted around it that isn't actually blocking it. it looks like crusted poop...
I tried the belt idea with the chicken. I'm not sure right now if the actual belt is what is keeping her from prolapsing, or if she is just so distracted by how uncomfy it is that she is not thinking about trying to push it out. I discovered exactly how lively she actually still is.
There is no blockage I am confident of that. She is straining because the scabbing is so bad she is uncomfortable and feels like she needs to release something.
Yes, she did. I think perhaps, she had the prolapse the day before I caught it. I hope that doesn't doom her. My mother doesn't want her to suffer and she is muttering about culling, but I would probably go insane if we had to. I am already a wreck from losing 2 other of my girls in the past 2...
She keeps on pushing the vent out so I have been scared to feed her. every time she pushes it out and we have to push it back in, it starts to bleed again and we are scared that if we feed her, she will get even more poop in the wounds. She isn't really drinking but we got her to eat some...
