I'm not a fan of fans. :D
You should use something that's rated for use in a barn because a normal fan is a fire hazard due to the dust from the bedding and the feather dander.

Different birds seem to be capable of handling pellets at different ages.
I don't care much about pellet vs crumble except for chicks too young to handle the pellets. Depending on the feeder, there is sometimes less waste with pellet feed.
Yes, it's actually possible to raise chicks on all-flock -- though I think that giving them a good start on the medicated feed is worthwhile.

Some people use the 3 square foot per chicken figure. Most of us here use these numbers:
For each adult, standard-sized hen you need:
4 square feet in the coop (.37 square meters)
