Is a solar with battery fan a fire hazard?

Thanks for this. A lot to think about.

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

Thinking of ventilation at night, I think they need a fan. Is there something you could recommend for my size coop? I’d like solar run but with battery operated at night. I started googling and remembered I should ask here first! (I have googled many times actually over the weeks and just...

Thank you! Seeing these pics do you still think they need more?

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

Thank you, this is a good point and I have wondered the same. We won’t be enlarging - we just can’t. The only time they are in the coop is for sleeping and laying eggs. But is that what you mean - it needs more ventilation for those times? One good thing - the coop is under trees and in the...

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

Thanks. I’ll probably start out with crumbles, just because I’m babying my babies 😊 and end up later on with pellets. Thank you for the explanations!

I didn’t know about introducing them to germs gently. Today I let them roam the run without the big chickens around (locked them in). I hope it’s not a bad thing if we skip this step!

Ok sorry to keep posting but I found these and I think crumbles would be best. Thank you all again!!

Sounds great! Should I go ahead and start them on it when they finish this bag? Next week they will be 9 weeks.

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

I’m back with a new question. What to feed the integrated group. I just read that feeding the whole group unmedicated starter feed was the best solution until they are all laying. With calcium supplements available separately. I fed my chicks organic unmedicated feed the first six weeks. Then...

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

I got confused and forgot I posted this elsewhere. Thanks for reposting here. This was my response on the other post: (Should I delete that one?) Yes, the older ones free range most of the time in our yard and the past couple of weeks the babies have been in the playpen during the day so...

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

Thank you for your response and ideas. Especially about extra waterer and feeder and size of roost bar. I did research quite a lot but not here on BYC. I’ve got some teaching to do! I’m pretty sure I’ll be back here with more questions! I’m anxious now (and nervous) to get started! 😊

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

I appreciate your kind response. I am going to start today on some of the suggestions starting with just letting them roam the yard together. As far as later on, if it doesn’t work, The only option I see is to get rid of one. I really can’t expand the coop. I would hate to do that but one...

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

I really appreciate these replies. Hearing that my space is too small for 6 chickens is a bit devastating. I have been researching this for the past 6 months (but apparently not enough). The coop is 18 sq feet (plus the two nests on the end) and I thought 3 sq ft per bird is perfect. The run...

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

By screen off do you mean they would stay there instead of the upstairs coop? Or just something to keep them in or just something they can escape to? I’m new to chickens (got the hens and coop at Christmas). Do you think we should go ahead and let them out in the yard together some during...

    Integrating chicks before 12 weeks

I will be going on a trip in 4 weeks, when my chicks are 11 1/2 weeks old - 2 days from 12 weeks. I have been hoping to integrate before I go so that my chicken babysitter can easily take care of them all and I don’t have to make special arrangements and worry about while I’m gone (I have 3...
