    My cousin kindly added 3 Whiting True Blue roosters to his Murray McMurray order for me for beginning of May. Plan will be to breed those to our Leghorn hens for some chicks that will lay blue eggs, and to some of our brown egg layers for green egg laying chicks. Then hopefully next year we can...

    Ended up with 12 total from the incubator — 11 buff Orpington and 1 mystery chick that is obviously an incident of one of the hens still carrying sperm from an incorrect rooster…the baby has buff on its head and some of its back, but then is yellow with black spots on the rest of its body, so...

    One of the new chicks seemed weaker than the others yesterday. E got a bit of electrolyte water in it last night but it was still weak this morning, so we brought it inside and she fed it some egg yolk and some more electrolyte water. It perked up significantly after that, so we will continue on...

    Dude stood on his own tonight! It was only for about 2 seconds, but the fact that not only did he make the effort but was also successful is a major improvement. Definitely not out of the woods totally and has long way to go, but excited to see this.

    Also, Friday night the roosters and hens got mixed, with exception of Lady Babushka...so no collecting eggs for hatching from anyone until March 3 at the earliest.
