If you have a tractor supply local you can get it there. Your idea would probably work but it wouldn’t stay on them as long.

Use scarlet oil on there legs to kill leg mites. I prefer the one that has the dauber so you can just brush it on them. Keeps them from being so dry and flakey also kills the leg mites on contact.

I still eat mine even after treating them. No issues at all. I wouldn’t put the drops on them and start eating them the next day but. A week later I wouldn’t think twice.

I’ve never used it for that purpose but it’s worth a try to clean her up. Can’t hurt at this point.

Get some ectoline pour on. You can find it on Etsy 2 small drops under the vent and one drop under each wing it works wonders on mites.
