With clears, I had a 77% hatch rate. Taking out clears, (& the egg I dropped), I had an 83% hatch rate. I’m quite content with that! 😊
Not counting my disastrous broody experiment.
Morning update: one more hatched last night! I had two eggs still pipped, and I candled them quickly. One had a pip on the side of the egg (not in the air cell), but is now trying to pip in the air cell. It must have rearranged itself somehow. It was chirping like crazy, any advice?
The struggling baby is out! Just pulled the membrane slightly by its beak…and it burst out like “Thank Goodness”.
After looking at the membrane, it looked really thick compared to the normal ones. Poor little one!
I grabbed the four fluffers. The the trouble egg. Looked a little dry…slathered some coconut oil on the membrane but didn’t pull it apart. It was chirping when I touched it. Put it back in. I can see it breathing. Advice? (Or PM me as to not clog the happy thread!)
This is the zipped egg…the shell is completely detached. Just the membrane now. It started zipping 6 hours ago. It hasn’t moved much in the last hour. Thoughts? Humidity is like 80 with all the hatches that have been going on. Vent completely open. It was steady at 60 until the hatches started...
One of mine has been zipping for a few hours…it will take a little break, then I see it moving again. It’s unzipped the actual egg all the way around, except for some of the membrane. I am so tempted to rip the membrane for it…but I think I’ll wait a bit longer.
I have about 75% of the eggs that made it to lockdown hatched already, and day 21 officially starts this evening! This must be an early bunch! A great surprise! (& might let me set my next batch a day earlier!) 😂
It wouldn’t hurt! My smaller eggs seem to always start pipping on day 20, so I set up my brooder on Day 19. Never needed it that early but the one time I dont…lol.
