Incubator Comparison:
NR 360: 81% hatch rate
Kebonnix: 91%
Jumbl: 81%
I did not like the Jumbl at all, it was difficult to keep temp steady after opening to add water each day, and sometimes the temp would shoot up to quick and I would have to open it to lower it. Pain in the neck, but I was...
Update: one more hatched last night! I had two eggs still pipped, and I candled them quickly. One had a pip on the side of the egg, but is now trying to pip in the air cell. It was chirping like crazy, any advice?
Bad news. The othet pip was covered in yellow, and was completely dead. I think...
Tomorrow. Today they were all huddled under the heat plate just resting up. Tomorrow I’m guessing they’ll be much more active, and it will be light to take pics. 😊
About half have hatched already! Only 8 eggs have not popped yet! Babies everywhere!
I’ll have to get some pics once they get settled in the brooder. 😊
No obvious quitters, so left them all in for lockdown tomorrow!
I did take one of the eggs from my broody, and put it in the Jumbl incubator. Left her three Legbar eggs. If there is no headspot, they should be girls, so I can let her keep one or two! (Headspot could be a boy or could be if my...
Tomorrow after work, Day 17, I am removing the turners and putting down shelf liner. I have a late night Tuesday, so this way I can just bump up humidity and start lockdown without all the moving & rearranging. Will probably candle to mark air cells tomorrow as well, so the air cell tilts are...
Thanks, I am excited, too! I have to have this batch finished and incubators cleaned out, as I have a new batch of 36 going in Monday evening. 😂 I’m not going to truly double-stack that batch, but I’ll put 24 in the 360 and 12 in the kebonnix. Assuming after clears/quitters each egg will have...
Today is day 14, and although I won’t spoil the Easter Hatching contest, I have about 90% of fertile eggs still going! A few questionable, but those super-dark speckled eggs are hard to see in so I left them as I think I saw veining & movement. I am still hand turning, but I remember reading...
Just candles all of them again. Removed a few more clears & one light blood ring. I won’t post specifics since there might be a contest with hatch numbers, but overall many of these eggs look good and are growing! A few are super dark so if I saw some blob like shadow or eye dot I left them in...
First time making this mistake. I was turning the stacked eggs, and I have a little table & towel, and the egg slipped out of my hand backwards behind me and SPLAT right on the floor.
Life lesson…SLOW DOWN. Thank goodness it wasn’t later and almost developed or I would have felt even worse. 🙁
