I also keep mine on a timer because it’s against the covered run so already not as sunny right on the door. Just a slightly dark sky from rain worries me.
I have WiFi cameras too. It helps ease my mind to physically see the door is shut even though I do trust it.
I agree, apart from convenience there is a big safety aspect to it! Sometimes things happen. Sometimes are brains are occupied. Knowing it’s handled and there aren’t any “oh 🤬” moments...
Thank you! I ended up getting the T-50 as well! It’s been in for a few days and seems to be working great so far. I use the timer instead of the sensor since the coop is attached to a covered run and I worry it may be triggered during stormy days.
That sounds absolutely horrible. Im sorry that happened!
Im not too concerned about things like that since the coop is attached to a run and our dogs parole the yard most of the day/evening. If anything has the guts to enter the yard it would be late night while we sleep.
Thanks for all the feedback! I went ahead and ordered a Run-chicken direct from their website (had a discount code) and it came yesterday. Hoping to get it installed tomorrow! I’ll report back after I’ve used it for a while.
I think you’re mistaken how they work. They open in the morning either by sensing light or by a set time and they close in the evening again by sensing darkness or a set time. The door will remain closed throughout the night and only reopen in the morning, just like a manual pop door controlled...
Thanks for your info! I was definitely disappointed when I learned there were no doors that could be controlled from a phone app remotely. That’s what I really wanted. For now I’ll use my programmable door (once it’s installed). Hopefully they come up with a remote activated app door in the future!
Mine are kept in a large run so I would see on our cameras if one got left out. But so far they all follow each other into the coop at exactly 845 every night.
My Run Chicken door got here today! Can’t wait to get it installed. I’m Happy to read yet another good review. I’m in Florida so I don’t need to worry about freezing rain. It gets cold in the winter (north Florida) and though we often get close to freezing temps, actual freezes are very uncommon.
I ordered direct from the run chicken website and not Amazon. I had an affiliate code from instagram for 10% off so I know I’m getting the correct one and not the China knockoff.
Somehow missed your first response. I only saw your reply to @Shadrach.
Thanks for all the information. Im definitely not a DIY person so making one is not an option for me :)
I checked out their website the other day. I’ll be honest- the instructions and programming overwhelmed me 😂 also I didn’t like how there isn’t an option to program times for open and close. It’s light activated only.
Ive gone back and forth about getting an automatic door for our coop. I think I may have even made a post about it a while back. We have a coop attached to a run and do not free range. The run is secure but technically something could dig under. We aren't too concerned because we are in a...
