    Injury or Neurological Issue?

The plastic molded boot is much better. It’s not something she can wear all the time right now, but she wore it for awhile today and did pretty well. This video is way too long, and she did even better later when I wrapped the whole boot in vet wrap before putting it back on her.

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Thanks, RC. This one is like heavy duty canvas with wire inside. It is flexible. I think the one you are sending me is a molded plastic? Anyway, I tend to agree with you. She might be better without the boot for now. I’m wondering if she suddenly got worse lately from the day that I was late...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

While I wait for a boot from my wonderful friend @RoyalChick, I ordered this one from Amazon. It took me a few tries to figure out how to get it to fit her. But it turned out to be a no-go, anyway. So I let her run around for a while without it and she did pretty well. Here she is actually...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Actually, I used the plastic lid from a can of peanuts. It’s a little too floppy, but gets stronger with the vet wrap. The ankle part is plastic from a plastic water bottle.

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Quick update. I don’t know what it means exactly, but I was mistaken when I said Bridge cannot curl her toes. This morning when I took her down from the roost, I placed my hand under both feet, and both of her feet grasped my hand. She still cannot flex it dorsally, however. She did pretty well...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

THANK YOU so much for this feedback. I do fear it could be Marek’s and will try to keep things as stress-free and healthful as I can. It makes me hopeful to hear your Brahma has been fine for a couple years like this. My crested cream leg bar has an iris that is not perfectly circular and it’s...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Last night I made this shoe for Bridge. It seems to work pretty well. She can use this until a manufactured shoe arrives. It doesn’t seem to bother her as much as the vet wrap by itself. I also trimmed her toenails a little after taking the photo. I didn’t want to go too far, as I nicked the...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

So I took Bridge inside to see how her foot looks when she walks on it on flat ground. It’s not good. Poor thing. I think the foot is pretty much done. And I can’t believe I was too stupid to think of the possibility of a brace or boot or shoe until my daughter mentioned it. Duh. I know...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

I forgot to mention that she’s pretty perky and normal besides not wanting to or really being able to walk well on her foot. Also, one of the junior hens is eyeing her position in the pecking order. But she’s still the boss. And the second in command hen wouldn’t even think of challenging her.

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Yes, I do believe she has some discomfort. I did try her on a full low dose aspirin one day and it didn’t seem to help. That does seem to help the other one with a bad leg, however. I picked up and compared dangling feet of a few chickens this morning. The right foot on Bridge is definitely...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

. This is an interesting point. I’ve only felt her for bloatedness, like I do with all the girls, and she is not bloated. However, I haven’t really investigated for tumors. I did catch her when resting with the bad leg sticking straight backward. Seems to be providing some sort of relief. She...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Hi. Yes, Bridge is short for Bridgette. ❤️

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

No, I never saw any bruising, but honestly did not look very hard in her feathers. I have noticed lately that the leg might feel thin. I’ll compare it to the other leg tomorrow, as it might have atrophy.

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

No. It’s been cold and winter here and removing her from the flock (for a soak and dry indoors) would have stressed her out. I’ve just let her be for the past three months, helping her down from the rooster, every day. I could start a B complex, however. I have noticed the past few days when I...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

She does not seem to be gripping with her toes. No, I don’t think so. I’m wondering if it could be Marek’s at her old age. When Margo died years ago of an egg yolk peritonitis infection gone septic, in the necropsy report, there were notes of a background Marek’s infection as seen in the nerve...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Hello everyone. So Bridge has shown no improvement over the last three months. Lately it seems a little worse. She still carrying on mostly normally and I take her down from the roost each day. I was a little late a couple days ago and she had jumped partway down, which may or may not explain...

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Thank you. Yes, her crop is emptying overnight. I’m going to visit my daughter at college this weekend, but will look closely at Bridge’s foot before I go. Does anyone know if arthritis could cause this?

Also, there is one very low roost, but nobody uses it.

    Injury or Neurological Issue?

Thank you. I will look at her foot more closely. There is no Bumblefoot issue, but I’ll look to see if I missed something else.
