Not so much. You wouldn't want to feed it to chicks and some claim it's harmful to roosters. Layer feeds only have plant protein as well. Flocks don't do well over the long run on just layer feed.
Avoid fat, only feed cooked scraps, and only in moderation
With single digit temps and lower now you don't want to avoid some fat. Just like bird suet cakes some fat/high calorie feed helps get them through the low temperatures.
