LOL froggiesheins, I don't have access to a "UN-handled half-wild aggressive gamey-mutt hen," but I can certainly try to give my BRs a growl and stink eye!

Thanks for the advice. I've pretty much tried all that after reading previous posts on integrating new chickens, but it didn't work. I love the egg color from my barred rock, but boy they sure can be mean and greedy, LOL! Yesterday, I put down two bowls of yogurt. I had to literally stand...

I've learned my lesson, NEVER again will I get carried away with the 'cuteness' of bantams and buy some! I have two Calico cochin batams, two barred rock, and one unknown breed. The Barred Rock REFUSE to accept the batams and keep pecking at them. One has even bled from her comb from the...

Thanks for the advice froggi... I will try that. Yesterday one of my barred rocks grabbed one of the calicos and I ended up throwing an orange at the BR to let go of the calico. And, this happened under my supervision, :-( Alice... beautiful eggs, and I wish I had an incubator to hatch some.

Nanni... hope you were able to rehome. Haven't posted in a while, because not much happening. My two Calico bantam cochins are now over 3 and 4 months old. I can't wait for them to start laying because I am curious at the size of their eggs, lol! My two barred rocks and one UNK lay daily and...

kunai, by pullets, do you mean already laying hens? If not, check out the Red Barn for chicks when the weather gets warmer. I've always gotten chicks from there and in 10 years, only once got a roo. Would have been nice to have known about the Glendale gathering being that it's close enough...

Greetings all. I haven't posted in a while because I didn't have much to say :-) I recently bought two Calico Cochin bantams, and find them so cute! One is just over a month old and the other over two months. I can't wait until they lay just because I want to see how small their eggs are, LOL...

It's been cold and windy here in southern CA, and I don't like it, but my chickies seem to be o.k. with it! Ms. cluckling, what kind of eggs are you hatching?

Wanting to say hello, and to bump up this thread. Not much happening here. Just today, I think my four older chickens (about 18 wks old) are finally accepting the two younger ones (about 10 wks old)! It's been a pain having to keep the two in a cage in the coop because the older ones kept...

Been off the computer because I couldn't get internet. I finally had some time to call and have it fixed. It's a pain when your computer is out of commission, LOL! flower, you aren't kidding about getting obsessed with chickens. I go to the Red Barn and see those cute chickies and want to...

Thanks for the info on what you do Mary and Betty. I will need to try doing something similar. I used to have more feed and water containers that were hung from the tree in the coop run, but I gave them all to Salvation Army thinking I would move from this area and might not be able to have...

NinjaKaren, yes, are chickens funny to watch and very relaxing! I bring my 4 y.o. GD to visit my chicks, and we sit and just look at them grazing in the yard. Of course, then my GD wants to "just pet them" over and over! Kristina93, I have six pullets myself. Four of them should be of age to...

Thanks tigerrrrrrrlilly, I just got the schedule for my GS and it's definitely a no go to SD. BTW, I would be driving for over 2 1/2 hours or so mapquest says (I think it's longer). I will try to make a future trip when I have no other family plans and then can start out early enough to get...

Ooooo, lots of action today -- I like that! I wish I could go to the SD meet, but I have a CRFG's meeting at 10 AM, and my grandson has a cross-country meet at 7:45 AM. At this point, I don't know how long the meet will go to, but that takes priority to the CRFG's meeting:). Maybe I will be...

Had an incident with one of my EE chicks. I have two, 3 1/2 week old chicks indoors. Came home and noticed one of the chicks not being as active. When I went to get her, there was something coming out of her beak and attached to the side of their cage. Turns out the chick had swallowed part...

Hope everyone is enjoying Labor Day! I've been outside working in the yard, and then took out my two baby EEs and let them play in the lawn for a bit. They were having so much fun, but I had to put them back in their cage so I could come in the house. I suppose if I go away, I will have my...
