We're having lovely weather for the high desert. The nights are in the upper 20's but the days get up to 70 and so far no wind. I heard some may be coming in but on the 5th of Jan last year we had 4 in. of snow on the ground. I have nine chicks one month old. Five are Old English Game...
Everyone that's going needs to check the weather report as there is astorm coming in and the higher elevations could get snow. Drive safe everyone. I can't go as I have two important meetings but hope it's a good one for the ones going.
I'm noth east of LA up in the high desert above Mojave. I have two new baby chicks (two weeks now) Mama is a blue laced wyandott but the eggs were Old English Game bantam eggs. It was the only rooster I had that was mature enough. They look like white chicks that have rolled in ashes. I...

Welcome MichenerFarm, Where are you located in the Mojave Desert? I live in Inyokern, about 45 miles north of Mojave off of 395 up where the China Lake Navy Base is.
I have regular size chickens, bantams and quail. The quail are in my aviary with my finches and they keep the bottom of the aviary cleaned up of bird seed. They get along just fine also.
ChicksterJo, how many do you have? How much are you asking? I might be interested in a few as I have some now as well as finches. You posted you live in Lancaster. I'm north of you about 75 miles. I live near Ridgecrest and we shop in Lancaster a lot.
Hi ms.cluckling. I'm waving from afar since I'm in the high desert. I have nine hens but I also have parakeets, canaries and finches and even two coturnix quail. What fun when your eggs hatch.

So no one mistakes your egg sales as taxable you can say I don't sell eggs but I will take a donation for feed. Donations are tax free. That's how schools get around raffles and such...
I didn't know Victorville had a poultry show. It sounds interesting. I missed the Bakersfield show due to a hurt knee. I might try the Victorville one if I don't break my neck or something.
I live north of 58 about 45 miles off of 395 so it's only an hour and a half I think.
I have six hens in a 12x16 run and the hen house is 4x12 with the nests mounted on the outside. I mix up a mix of laying crumbles with water and add 2 or 3 beaten eggs and add a couple of cups of sunflower seeds and add oyster shells to it also. I don't think the space or the lack of protein...
Hi everyone. I've been on here before but wanted to say I'm in Inyokern, in the high desert, just outside of Ridgecrest about an hour or so from Victorville.
I have four new pullets, an Andalusian, a Wellsummer and two Wyandotte's. Three of the four have just started to lay. One egg is...
The road runners around my place hang out near the chicken pen but my hens don't seem concerned. I guess they know they can't get to them. Even the hawks have tried but I have my pens covered with chicken wire as well as shade cloth. I also have finches, quail, parakeets and canaries outside...
I made feed and water containers out of 5 gal. buckets like you buy at Home Depot. For feed I cut holes about 2 inches in four or five places at the bottom of the bucket and set it in a plant pot saucer. The lid keeps the feed clean. I also put a square board on top of the bucket secured with...
