She passed this morning. When we went out to give her a calcium pill she was hiding behind the logs in the run. When we picked her up she started coughing up clear fluid and struggling for breath. In the 1-2 minutes I took to run inside to grab a needle/syringe to drain some of the fluid she...
Well, we had a good 5 week run of her being 100% normal. She even laid her first egg on December 12 (so she hadn't actually been laying when she first started acting sick).
She's still doing okay, but I did notice she started looking at little dumpy this morning. I went ahead and gave her a...
So, I was all set to euthanize my pullet today. But when I got everything all set up and she came to me and seems completely normal. Her abdomen is no longer swollen and her crop was decently full for the time of morning. When I picked her up she didn't have any of the gurgling she's done the...
Did a fluid check this morning, she definitely has ascites 😞 But at least now we know. She had been looking so much better, but yesterday she was dumpy again. We'll be euthanizing her and I'll do a quick necropsy. I'll update with pictures when we do.
Yes. I was pretty sure, but after catching our sapphire jewel in the nest box and pulling out a still warm blue egg I'm positive the blue egg was not laid by my legbar.
They haven't changed, that I'm aware of. The three eggs pictured were laid the same day, by three different pullets.
One of these has to be hers (unless my wyandotte is somehow laying green eggs, I know the RIR is laying brown and the sixth pullet isn't laying yet based on pelvic spacing). The top two eggs we've been seeing since before her symptoms started and during the worst of them. Her condition has been...
Tonight her crop was reasonably full. It felt about the same as the other chickens. And we got another of the green speckled eggs that we suspect are hers.
Husband seems to think the speckles are blood embedded in the shell. I think they look like normal pigment.
She's eating scrambled egg enthusiastically, but didn't seem very interested in the soaked pellets or squash seeds i offered this morning. She is at least moving more normally, and I haven't seen any of the purple tinging today.
Morning update: no real change. I went out to check my pullets crop this morning and it wasn't empty. There was a small firm (not hard) ball, maybe slightly smaller than last night, maybe not (it was hard to say)
Yeah, im not a fan of that at all. It mostly seems to happen then, but I've noticed it at random times too.
That's what I'm worried about. She's been fine right up to this week, and now that she's at onset of laying suddenly she's in trouble. I like her a lot, but if she's already having...
Update: I found 3 colored eggs in my nest box today. So unless my RIR, wyandotte, or cookies and cream are laying wildly off color for their breeding one of them has to be the legbar.
Unfortunately I didn't have much time to check on her between getting home from work and trick or treating...
Thank you.
Her poop is runny, yellowish but mostly urates. Her belly feels soft and squishy.
The shaking really only happened when this first started. Painwise she's been clearly uncomfortable but not acutely painful since the first dose of aspirin. I didn't have much time to observe her...
I feel bad making a third thread about my 26 week old legbar pullet but I can't figure out how to edit the title to make it more visible.
I have a lethargic. pullet with a soft descended abdomen. Appetite is decreased. She is still eating but not much outside of treats. Unsure if she is...
