I have never fed scratch in my life, what's the benefits and how do you feed it? And I've only given grit to my pullets and cockerels the first few months, not full time. Should I?
The previous years I've fed Layer feed, this year I'm only doing Flock Raiser with oyster shell provided separately. The breeds that died were my Orphingtons, Faverolles, silkies, Japanese, Rhode island reds, Brahmas, and a few mixed breeds. This year I have Jersey Giants, Orphingtons, Isa...
I hear that so often, but winter always has a large death toll. I can never figure it out, my coops are draft free, but ventilated at roof level. I have large 150lb feeders which never run empty too. The coops are built in a fairly protected area between two giant barns and trees behind them...
I so wasn't prepared for freezing this soon, I still have chickens in outside pens. I lost 2 today, but they were in the insulated coop so I'm very nervous as to how my flock will do once winter DOES arrive.
I am taking a week off work and building a new coop, more like fixing up an old machine...
Yeah the mud is unreal. My poor chickens' feet are just caked in mud. I have been throwing feed bags in the runs so they can walk on them instead of the wet ground. It doesn't take long for them to get buried in mud though... yuck
I'm up closer to Yankton SD, and we actually had a few snowflakes in September. The weather has been nuts, nonstop rain since.... feels like forever haha! Coyotes are moving in like crazy though, there were probably six outside about an hour ago fighting with my dogs, they chased them off north...
Does anyone know of upcoming exotic bird and animal auctions coming up? I just found out Bloomfield will no longer be holding their auctions anymore. I really want to avoid West Point's, it's so big I don't want to try and fight the crowds. I had a few ornamentals I was wanting to rehome, let me...

Two Houdans if anyone is interested. Feel free to ask questions! :) I will travel!
Oh wow did I really type south? I think it was like 6am when I posted that, I meant north :gigI am by Pierce. I think Norfolk is about 45 minutes from where I am, but I am a horribly slow, cautious driver and I take an hour to get there. I travel a lot, I'm always in either Norfolk or Omaha.
