Building a drill mounted chicken plucker....

Length of the fingers means a lot. Short fingers don't work well for chicken long don't work as well for duck.

RWD I'm not trashing yours. It looks well made. Even on a 1/2" drill with it being that long it needs supported on the far end. I thought about building one like it myself. If you mount it to a board You could have one like are selling for $400. Just trying to give what I believe is helpful...

Building a drill mounted chicken plucker....

I don't like the taste of a bird that young so I haven't tried. I have tried to scald duck & it just doesn't work. Dry plucking duck takes a lot longer to pluck the a scalded chicken & only gets about 80% of the feathers. A scalded chicken gets almost all of them.

Yes. Ducks work better at a slow speed when dry plucking. Scalded chicken work better at a fast speed. I actually think 3 fingers would work better but I can't ship them as cheap that way.

RWD That is way to long & puts to much weight on a drill. If you had the other end supported it would probably be OK. Poultry123 It is all about the scald. If you do the scald right then it well work very well. I sell them on eBay for $38 TYD because of all the fees. I have to pay listing...

Quote: Post a pic of your plucker for us to take a look at. To scald I have my water at 150 & splash the bird in about 3 times or untill a wing feather pulls out easily. Then I dip the tail in because it gets exposed less then the rest of the bird. Hope this helps some.

The manufacture told me these will not work on ducks so I don't know if it will work on Geese. I only use a 2" with 4 fingers & i think they may be a little far apart so you might be getting to much bouncing. I have never tried to mount the drill ether. Mainly because it just doesn't look...

Please post a pic of your plucker. Also how did you scald the bird? I think the plucker is great. Please fallow up so we may help each other to make this easier. Since you bought the pickers from me I know they work very well. If I could get some more details maybe we can figure out why...

Tom I don't seem to have those problems with mine. I can stick my fingers in my plucker while I wont say it fells good It doesn't hurt. The wing feathers come out just fine & most of the tail feathers. There is a few of the smaller ones left to hand pluck. I will say a good scald is the...

Quote: You may find that plucking 2 - 3 chickens at a time will stop the leg breaking as well as any excessive bruising. Most of the leg breaks I've heard of are a result of only doing one bird at a time. I don't think you can bruise them unless you try to pluck them while they are alive but...

Here is the picks. I'm fairly sure these are the same fingers used in the Whizbang instructions. These are the ones used in the commercial & industrial pluckers. You just drill a 3/4" hole & pull these into place. Once in they must be cut out but the only reason I would want them out is to...

It looks a lot like the idea I had but I used a 2" pipe cap & 4 fingers 4" long. I have these rubber fingers that I will sell $1 each + shipping. If you would like I could take a pic & post it. One of these days I will build my WizBang plucker.
