Hi, I live in the Iowa City area, and was wondering if there was anyone within 45 minutes or so of Iowa City that wants to sell any pullets or one year old hens? I used to buy my pullets from Wren (Karen) but I see she moved to FL! I prefer to buy young chickens because I don't have time to...

Does anyone within 45 minutes of Iowa City have any pullets they would like to sell? I forgot to lock my chickens up ONE TIME at night, and something came and got all my black australorp pullets that I had raised from chicks. That night I even thought, "Did I close the coop? Sure I did, I...

Here are the codes for Cedar rapids. I cannot find ANY mention of chickens, except in the animal regulation they define "fowl" as livestock, but I don't see them prohibited. http://www.ordlink.com/codes/cedarrapids/ Take a look and maybe you can find something.

Have you guys ever had mink problems? I built my run and coop thinking about protection from dogs, coons, and hawks. The run is totally enclosed, chickens wire top and 2x4 welded wire sides, that flare out at the base and are covered with pavers so there will be no digging under. I didn't...

I think the chicken wire wouldn't have been bad if the snow had a chance to melt between storms. It was OK for a while, but once you get a solid layer covering the wire, it just builds up fast.

Quote: yes, the chicken wire was a mistake. Snow builds up on it, and don't even get me started about ice! That first ice storm we had, it was completely coated with ice. It does work well for the summer though. What I am going to do I think, is fix/tighten the chicken wire this summer...

All the built up snow is causing the top of my run, which is chicken wire, to sag badly. As it thawed some today, I went and scooped a bunch off, but I could only get so much because I cannot reach that far with the shovel. I think it may cave in if much more piles up. . I will just have to fix...

More snow coming today!!!! I feel so bad for the girls not getting out to free range. They sure do hate walking in the snow. I have a raised coop so they hop out and hang out under it during the day, but it's not the same.

Thanks for posting about Sunrayhatchery.com. They are a perfectly reasonable driving distance for me. I will be getting some new chicks in the spring, but would only like about 5-6 chicks.

Quote: Cool! I have 6 hens, four of them are mixed breeds, they had an EE dad and various bantams for moms. And 2 are Speckeled Sussex that I picked up from wren on this board. I am keeping my eye out to add some Welsummers, but nobody seems to have them. I have limited coop space so I am...
