It is freezing out!! 5° this morning when I let all the birds out. They dont mind though, they spring out the doors.
I just hate busting the ice out of the water bowls.
Yeah, almost all of our trees still have leaves on them. cbs6albany has us in 7-10", and wnyt has us in 7-12". They also has us in the major chance for power outages. Good thing it will warm up next week, so hopefully it will be gone quick.
We had a little snow on the ground this morning. I spent a while outside getting ready for the snow were supposed to get tomorrow. Hoping we don't get anything though.

It is about 40 minutes from me also (in northern Columbia co) I will have about 9 chickens to get processed. Can you let me know your thoughts after it is done?
Ginny
I am near there, but I do my own chickens. Wonder what they charge for turkeys?
they said $8 per turkey.

The $2.75 is large fowl, I guess. Don't know if bantams are the same. And I think the giblets are included. This is the first time we'll be bringing birds to get processed.
I asked awhile back if anybody knew of poultry processors.
I found one about 40 min away from us. Were taking the retired layers down this week to get processed. It's $2.75 per bird if you want them whole and I think $4 if you want them pieced out.

Yes, they do.
Vaccinated Mareks birds will shed the virus and infect unvaccinated birds. So, if you don't vaccinate, ask before you purchase anything.
Thanks Sue! I thought that might be the case... How long do they shed the virus?
Do most show breeders Vac? (and for what?) I'd like...

Thanks! I'll check it out.
There is a show the last Sunday in September at the Cobleskill NY Fairgrounds. They have a seperate building for the juniors (judged seperatley from the adults).
Anybody know of a poultry processor in Catskill?? I heard there is a place in Catskill NY that does this. You bring the live birds there and they kill them and process them.

I have a mister I will try to get working tomorrow. Last year I didn't have problems until it got REALLY hot (95+) - then I broke out the water bottles and frozen watermelon, but geeze, at 85 you'd think they'd be ok. /grumble
Thats what I do with the silkies when it gets hot. Ill...

I just got my NPIP done last Friday. Hate that they had to test the leghorns and brahmas. The Brahmas weren't that bad, but the Leghorns are crazy flighty birds.
GOod Luck!

I keep them in regular chicken coops. Of course they don't have to be as big as the coops for my standard "layer" chickens. They do good in the winter too, with all the cold. I don't use heat lamps unless they are young birds.
Was busy cleaning coops yesterday and today. Got 7 coops cleaned. Then I had to scrape out the dirty poo sand that was down all winter. The runs look much better. All thats left is to get some more sand to dump down.
Will be setting another 18+ silkie eggs tomorrow.
Was 50 degrees out...
There is a sale May 1st.

I have the form that they will send you, if you want it. They emailed it to me last year when I told them I wanted to be certified. I can email it to you if you want. Just PM me your email address.
