Interesting point that this has brought up. Since chickens have become a backyard animal & therefore a "pet" to many. With it, seems the line is difficult for some.
I saw a FB page this week that stated if you mention culling, butchering, or similar terms you would be banned. I was stunned...
I haven't been able to keep pairs at this time. But I am working on another coop option. If I can, I will. If you decide you want some, I'll pass them to you for no charge.
Regarding eBay:
Pay attention to the comments. Since it's always stated, "rate on arrival of eggs, not results from hatching..." others may have had the same results as you but rated based on intact eggs. I think there should be an option to add comments and change rating for eggs. I don't rate...
Well as long as they have shade, and water, they should do ok. My chickens do pant and hang their wings occasionally but that's normal. I think you can also make a frozen treat for them, like seeds frozen in a block of ice?
I freeze cupcake molds of berries and veggies.
I bought a kiddie pool...
Hey guys, I'm trying to play catch-up on the thread. But, I need to make sure I ask if anyone would like some Calico Bantam Cochin. I hatched more than I can keep and though they are so adorable, I have silkies and showgirls in the bator. Oh and I have D'uccles also that are really getting big.
What the heck?! I've lost many chicks while under someone's care. Gecko may be advanced. But a dog? That's basic care! I hope you let them know the damage they caused.
Anyone have a tractor design they would recommend, that's not very complex?
It would need to be predator proof. I'd like it for the more delicate girls -- Silkies & Cochins.
It does. They love it, though mine seemed to prefer it after day 5. It will ferment more in the heat. Can slow it down by cooling it off/ adding more feed.
If the smell is too strong , you may not need the apple cider vinegar next batch.
Yep, that'll work... make it the way that works for you. I make it thinner for new chicks so I don't worry about them finding the water nipple right away, and I add poly visol without iron, at that time.
Thanks guys... we are hoping a neighbor found them and decided to raise chickens. One was a blue partridge silkie cockerel & the other a black Langshan pullet. The blue cockerel Langshan stayed behind with the big girls. So, we put him back with the youngsters. He's so huge compared to the...
Two older chicks got out of the enclosure before dusk. I'm guessing they are gone for good :(. I looked and listened for 2 hours... no show this morning. The little rooster is calling for them but no answer.
It does depend... and how you do it. Our D'uccles were hatched and raised with the flock. I swear it's the Lavender Ameracauna that constantly begs to rise from the bottom of the pecking order. I integrate new members every year... currently it's the Langshan/ Silkie crew that are joining this...
