I like using Ivomec pour-on for worming: a few drops per chicken. I don't worry about withdrawal time because they use wormers in cancer treatments in humans in combinations with other drugs and by the time it goes through the hen's system it's been refined further. Of course, we don't sell our...
That egg decorating looks like Polish/Slovakian psyanky. Done with egg dye and the designs are covered with wax done in layers as each dye layer is added. Beautiful , exacting work. All the grandmothers used to do it, now it's a dying art..literally.
For what it's worth, there are 5 , 1- week old meaties at the Temple TSC for half price as of this evening. We thought about it, but then thought more about the 12 doz eggs in the incubator:/
*waves to New Milford from Berks County*
I used to wander Susquehanna County in my youth. Have 2nd & 3rd cousins up there!
I am dreading free ranging this spring/summer. Lost a lot of young stock to hawks last fall. Hopefully the dog will deter the local fox.
There is no way I can keep up with this thread.
** waves to SwataraCreek from 100 pages back** John ordered 2 wafers from online. Now he claims we may keep what I call the Monster-bater. He likes turning the eggs 3x a day.
Last night DGD (age 13) was here and we candled the 8 dozen that are at...
Chiques.. the only problems we have with a broody up high is others laying in the nest and once the first one(s) hatch, if they are feisty and move out, the hen may follow. I like to rig up a removable fence to keep others out and babies in. It helps make sure those babies stay put until the...
Anyone know if guineas are laying when you observe breeding, sorta like chickens? Do we need to hunt for eggs?
Just set eggs today in the monster incubator. It's back to 99 already. We have blankets on it to maintain heat in this lovely warm weather:( Palm Sunday hatch, but I never count...
CC.. thanks for the root beer tips. There have been 2 bottles of syrup in my cupboard for a year just waiting for a low=sugar edition. Have you ever tried using Stevia?
Off -topic... setting eggs tomorrow in the humongous bator...3 doz of my marans and prolly that many banty cochins. Banties...
Re: PA gettogether... there were PA Chickenstocks 2 & 3 ( or 3&4) years ago in New Tripoli hosted by 19HBelgian ( Steph) and her hubby. Well attended and great time buying and selling. Don't know why they didn't have more but whomever wants to host might want to contact them and find out what...
patrickchick, we have the same problem with marans no matter if we hatch by incubator or broodie. Dry incubation works better than regular. The broodies are crazy mental cases too. Never try to co-hatch with them- they fight over the eggs from day 1.
Still, we persist!
Went to babysit the GS so DD could work on expanding her chicken setup. Came home with her McMurray Surprise chick... now a full grown red Arcauna roo. No tail, puffs and small beard. She has bantam cochins and needed this boy outta there. Anyone know if this is a guaranteed blue egg daddy? We...
We are still working on getting this incubator fully operational to sell it. DH oiled the motor and has had it running all day and temp is holding at 99. I opened the door to experimentally slide the egg rollers and the temp didn't budge. Also opened the air holes and the temp didn't...
from DD- who has quite a menagerie to feed.
"So I just went to Good's Feed Mill out in East Earl. Went the wrong way and ended up taking a hella long detour but I did get there eventually and my trip back was much quicker. They sell 16% dairy for 18.75/100lb which is about $7/100 cheaper then...
