Hello NorCal chicken friends!
I was wondering if I could get your advice. One of my hens has a very swollen eye and cheek. It doesn't seem to have much discharge, but it is tender and warm. Yesterday I flushed it with saline and tried to put some antibiotic ointment around it, and this...
Hello all! I have not been on here for a while, but my six bantam hens are five years old and laying well after their winter break. Elanor is currently broody, crossbeak Violet is still doing well, Sybil is the most social, Edith is low on the pecking order, and Rosie and Mary are at the top...
I like the quail pen! I'm causing trouble and suggesting to my sister that they should get quail, since they're small... For my watering system, I just leave the bucket mounted to the fence, and fill it with a hose.
I was coming home from errands this morning, and saw a sign for our community garden plant sale and tour. So I went by and visited all the garden beds and heard about the bees and talked to them about their chickens. They are thinking of getting some more chickens, so I sent them over here to...
Last year I went on the tour de coop, and had a great time talking with the people showing their coops. They were just like me! So I signed up to show my coop this year!
Register and come visit my coop on the Sunnyvale/Santa Clara loop! (Or send me a message, and I will let you know the...
I have one I got from the raffle at Karen's (@sewandgrow ) party this year!
I have bantam hens, so their eggs don't roll that well along it all the time. But it's a lot easier to keep track of which ones are older, and it's pretty on the counter with the green and brown/pink eggs. :)...
I have one in each nest box, so the other girls are laying under the coop, where I can barely reach after half crawling in!
Yay, first eggs!
Hope you find a home for Clyde.
Glad it wasn't worse!
Yeah, they say it's not "if you'll be in an accident" but "when you'll be in an accident."
Hope she recovers well!
What kind of bike?
Thanks.
Thanks.
I don't really know what happened to them. There was no obvious external injury, so I can only guess it was internal injuries. Rosie wasn't separated from the rest of the flock, and I know at least one other hen was in that corner at some point. So maybe the chicks got...
Adventures in Foster Broodies, part 7
I took Sybil's foster babies back to @chiqita this past weekend. It was fun watching them grow up. And Sybil has started laying eggs again!
I tried to give new foster babies to Rosie, who went broody a month ago. But it did not go as well...
Adventures in Foster Broodies, part 6
Sybil's foster babies will be five weeks old this weekend. They are growing up and hanging out with the flock. Hope they aren't too sad when they move back with @chiqita ... how do I know when Sybil is done raising them?
Meanwhile, Rosie has taken...
I would go. I imagine it would be a lot easier to go on a pre-planned trip with your family, who are aware of your health constraints, than to plan a trip on your own. If you have friends and neighbors who are willing and able to take care of your animals, all you need to worry about is what...
